THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST, Position Description Number T0100000 and is part of the RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION, National Guard. THIS IS A TEMPORARY NTE APPOINTMENT 1 YEAR BUT CAN EXTEND UP TO 4 YEARS. This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants.

Duties

As a Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035-09, you will serve as the Social Media Content Specialist responsible for developing modern and engaging content to support the battalion's engagement strategy for reaching its internal and external audiences as part of the recruiting and retention mission for the ARNG. This position will assist the Marketing and Advertising NCOIC with planning social media strategies and content to communicate the ARNG Recruiting and Retention Command's communication focus areas, priorities and missions at the battalion level. This position will engage with audiences on the battalion's social media platforms, provide content to support Recruiting and Retention Company level social media pages, and will also establish and maintain working relationships with social media counterparts at the Recruiting and Retention headquarters.

Requirements

  • Work may require access to classified information. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle and if so, an appropriate valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: For positions for which individual occupational requirements do not specify otherwise, general experience is 24 months of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4, that demonstrates the ability to: 1. Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices and techniques of written and oral communications that allows the employee to apply principles and use engage the battalion's audiences via social media platforms using sound Army Public Affairs practices. 2. Skilled in presenting written ideas through publications, position papers, correspondence, news releases, and a variety of other media. 3. Skilled in making oral presentations to various internal and external groups to explain the battalion's use of social media platforms to disseminate the Army's themes and messages. Such experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or other responsible work may be qualifying as long as it provided evidence of the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) necessary to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience of a general clerical nature (typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other nonspecialized tasks) is not creditable. Trades or crafts experience appropriate to the position to be filled may be creditable for some positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 12 months experience establishing and maintaining contacts is to remain current on key Army issues and media areas of interest to convey an accurate portrayal of the Army to a variety of publics and to research information for the development of specialized media skills training for Army senior leaders. Knowledgable in accurately portray the Army and its activities to a broad spectrum of external and internal publics through social media platforms.

Education

High School Diploma/GED is required if you have 1 year of specialized experience

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
