Serves as Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor in the Facilities Management Service. This position is located at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Saginaw, MI.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Incumbent is charged with direct line authority over Grounds and Transportation Section motor vehicle operators and laborers. Incumbent will also act as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) over various service vendors in conjunction with transportation and grounds issues.
The incumbent reviews of the quality and quantity of work serve as a database focal point in evaluating the performance of the service.
The incumbent is responsible for oversight and performance of Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) of all equipment for which the Grounds and Transportation Section is responsible.
Responsible for initiating the purchase of supplies, equipment, and repairs from outside vendors and contractors.
Responsible for maintenance; repair; preventative maintenance; cleaning and operation of the existing fleet of vehicles, including GSA-leased and VA-owned vehicles.
The incumbent is responsible for the upkeep of the grounds and will make sure the grounds look aesthetically pleasing at all times. The activities include but are not limited to lawn mowing; cleaning; sweeping; power leaf-blowing; fertilization; thatching; lawn re-seeding or use of sod; power washing; bituminous patching and watering of flowers and lawns.
The incumbent shall make sure snow and ice is removed from the Medical Center roads and walkways in a timely and effective manner. Incumbent will call back other employees as necessary to make sure paved areas and sidewalks are cleared and safe for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
All reports and studies of the Medical Center Transportation and Grounds functions are the responsibility of the incumbent.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Incumbent may, from time to time, be subject to considerable standing, bending, and stooping. Incumbent may have to work overhead, outstretched, cramped, or in awkward positions for extended periods of time. The incumbent utilizes considerable arm movement in the use of different trade tools (occasionally on a continuous basis). Incumbent may have to lift considerable weight up to 50 pounds. It is important for the supervisor to maintain a relatively healthy physical condition to withstand the rigorous intermittent physical demands placed upon him/her in all kinds of weather and conditions.
The supervisor normally works at a desk and/or in the field. Work is performed inside buildings and outdoors. Outdoor work exposes the incumbent to long periods of extreme temperatures, humidity, and moisture during all types of seasonal weather phenomenon. Incumbent is additionally exposed to excessive quantities of dust, dirt, grease, gas, oil, and fumes produced by equipment and surrounding environment. Eye and ear protection will be worn when operating equipment following OSHA Standards for safe work practices.
