The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Licensed Practical Nurse Specialty Clinic Medical. The Licensed Practical Nurse Specialty Clinic Medical will function in the Ambulatory Care Nursing Service.

Duties

Duties of the Licensed Practical Nurse - Specialty Clinic Medical include but are not limited to: Perform a variety of nursing duties as assigned in the Ambulatory Care/Outpatient Medical Specialty Clinics. Provide safe, individualized care to patients in the Medical Specialty Clinics within the Ambulatory Care Clinics. Plan, implement, and evaluate condition of patient's care with interdisciplinary teams. Completes comprehensive nursing documentation according to standards. Assisting the physician/nurse in a variety of examinations and treatments. Performing a wide variety of duties aimed at increasing the comfort and spirit of the patients. Setting up various types of complex medical equipment and using equipment safely and appropriately. Participates in teaching patients and/or caregivers. Providing a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff and others. Applying infection control measures appropriately in delivering care. Adhering to ethical principles in delivering care. Using effective communication skills with individuals and groups to achieve desired patient outcomes. Performing specialized treatments for patients as appropriate and applying and maintaining appropriate competencies to do so. Perform a wide range of diagnostic support duties such as handle specialized equipment after completing skills checklist, administer vaccinations, administer various injections, download glucose monitors and pumps, and perform intake and screening duties under the supervision of a RN. Support providers in all aspects of clinics to ensure efficient and effective patient flow while completing nursing duties. Flexibility in scheduled assignments as clinic needs dictate. 0730-1600, 0800-1630, 0830-1700. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, 7:30-4:00, with flexibility as needed Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must be a graduate of school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing. Must possess a full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: GS-3: None beyond the basic requirements. GS-4: Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN. -OR- Graduation from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures. -OR- Graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration. GS-5: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent. Ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. Knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous medications as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures. Knowledge and ability to recognize the need for and to institute emergency measures when indicated, promptly seek the assistance of the RN or MD/DO, and assist in resuscitation procedures in cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest. GS-6: Completion of at least 1 year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/LVN. Technical proficiency in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Ability to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant] patient information. Ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for care. Ability to prepare and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures. Knowledge and ability to recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations. Knowledge of handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure. Preferred Experience: Flexibility in scheduled assignments as clinic needs dictate. 0800-1630 / 0730-1600, 0830-1700 if needs dictate. Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience. Ambulatory Care/Outpatient Clinic experience preferred. Full-time position. References: VA Qualification Standards in VA Handbook 5005/3, Part II, Appendix G13. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-3 to GS-6. Physical Requirements: The population of male and female veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18 to the elderly adult age 65 and over. The incumbent must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate knowledge and ability to provide full range of complex technical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing, use of keyboard, and performing CPR. Transferring patients, and objects using appropriate assistive devices, push/pull and occupied gurney may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs, and perform all other activities of the position without restriction.
