About the Position: Serves as a Mail and File Clerk in the central mail unit and is concerned with both files maintenance and incoming and outgoing mail processing. Work requires the application of established mail or file methods and procedures, knowledge of prescribed systems for governing the flow and control of communications, and/or the filing or storage and retrieval of records. Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of duties.

Duties

Ensures the overall maintenance and control of Electronic Official Personnel Folders (eOPFs) for civilian employees. Prepares files to be sent to other agencies when employees transfer. Requests SF 1150 (leave record) from appropriate civilian payroll offices and medical records from appropriate health facilities. Receives and processes incoming mail to the Regional Center, including a variety of correspondence and documents pertaining to job applications and benefits. Determines mail to be opened and mail to be delivered. Processes outgoing mail. Segregates file copies, information copies, and outgoing mail.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The employee must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Work requires some lifting and carrying of moderately heavy packages (up to 50 LBS) and mail bags.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) utilizing a variety of office automation equipment to input and retrieve data and 2) receives and processes incoming mail. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
