Duties
Provides a comprehensive wound care assessment for patients referred for consultation, treatment, and management in order to identify wound etiology, formulate goals (healing, maintenance, stabilization, or palliative) and a plan of care in collaboration with the primary provider and the inmate. Formulate and recommend implementing a plan of care in collaboration with the provider or implement by an established protocol identifying expected outcomes for the treatment and management of wounds. Provides for evaluation of wound healing goals (healing, stabilization, or palliation maintenance) and individualized outcomes with plans for ongoing management with recommendations for continuity and/or consultation and referral/elevation of care as needed. Assist in in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements.Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND In addition to the Basic Requirements: Education/Work Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following requirement:
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
Some examples of qualifying experience are:
Experience in assessment of patients and their wounds to include a focused or comprehensive history and physical exam in order to establish differential diagnoses, utilization of appropriate diagnostic studies, competently interpret diagnostic results (with collaborative assistance from physician and/or advanced practice provider), establish an appropriate plan of care, and effectively communicate with the primary care team.
Experience in safely collaborating with a physician and/or advanced practice provider to co-prescribe medications and treatments specific to wound management and some chronic illnesses/chronic functional management issues (e.g. neurogenic bowel).
Experience in safely and competently providing a wide range of advanced wound care interventions and minor surgical interventions specific to wound care within the confines of the wound care specialist scope of practice and practice agreement (e.g. tissue debridement, incision & drainage, tissue biopsy).
Experience in provide individualized education and counseling to inmates regarding wound prevention, care of the wound, and treatment modalities.
Experience in collaborate with other health care professionals to establish wound care specific protocols and guidelines.

Applicant must possess certification in wound care from one of the national certifying bodies, such as the Wound, Ostomy and continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB), The American Association of Wound Management (AAWM) or the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO). The wound care certifying body should be recognized by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) or the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
