About the Position: Maintenance Mechanic Leader will be assigned to the Marietta Repair Station of the Regional Rivers Repair Fleet in Marietta, OH. Performs and leads others in the performance of repair and maintenance work of: a) navigation and flood control project gates, valves, operating systems and machinery and other associated features; (b) work activities at the Repair Station and;(c) on floating plant, land plant, and mobile equipment.

Duties

Work activities at the Repair Station, on a floating plant, land plant, and mobile equipment. Repair and maintenance work of navigation and flood control project gates, valves, operating systems and machinery and other associated features. Set the pace, establish and maintain control over work operations and assures production output for safe, efficient, and economical accomplishments. Determine modification and/or machine requirements for major repair and/or overhaul of maintenance on navigation and flood control equipment. Improvise and fit items such as valve and gate machinery, linkages, arms, gears, and cylinders which are complex and unique in nature due to the variation and age of the equipment to be repaired or replaced. Operate overhead cranes and jib cranes. Act as a rigger and signal person for land-based cranes and floating cranes and derricks. Fabricate and modify components, work involves job planning and layout of the work and equipment necessary to accomplish the task. Read and interprets drawings and prints. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program due to the capacity of the overhead crane operated. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R.
  • Valid State Driver License is required.
  • This position requires incumbent to perform all physical requirements of this position. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • TDY travel may be required to remote sites throughout the region.
  • Physical required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Perform various maintenance duties under close supervision such as rough carpentry work, machinery repair, sandblasting and painting, pipefitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. I operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to: overhead cranes, skid steers, dump trucks, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Works from ladders and scaffolds requiring prolonged overhead work or working in cramped or awkward positions. Climbs vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height. Frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed largely outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and energized electrical equipment, and sometimes on floating craft or elevated platforms. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads which are below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury, discomfort, hazardous atmospheres and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, PFDs, hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment.
