Duties

Applies clinical psychology concepts to the workplace environment. Develops and implements initiatives to mitigate performance degrading factors and risks, and optimize Airman, team, and workplace effectiveness. Serves as the True North embedded mental health clinical team lead and consultant assigned to the 5th Bomb Wing. Provides evidence-based, clinical psychology services. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities over no more than three subordinate positions to include at least one civilian.

  • At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0180 occupational series must be met.
  • Must have a valid license to practice psychology from a US jurisdiction.
  • Government civilian providers must meet all applicable credentialing requirements IAW military treatment facility guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the scope of their practice. Cont. Below..
  • Cont.. Must be privileged by the Credential Board at the local military Medical Treatment Facility.
  • Must possess and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • May be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is a drug testing designating position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Qualifications

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Selective Placement Factors. Must meet education and licensure requirements IAW Air Force privileging standards: Clinical psychologists must demonstrate appropriate skills, training, and experience to be considered for clinical privileges. Minimum educational requirements include: (a) A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in clinical, counseling, or combined professional-scientific psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Waiver of this requirement (i.e., graduates of regionally accredited universities or schools of professional psychology) must be staffed through appropriate approval authority IAW AF instruction. Note: If the requirement in (b) below is waived, the qualifying degree must be from a program accredited by the APA. (b) An APA-accredited predoctoral internship in professional psychology (This 1-year internship is part of an APA-accredited doctoral program. The AF accepts this internship from any APA-accredited site including designated AF sites). Waiver of an APA-accredited program must be staffed through appropriate AF approval authority IAW AF instruction. Note: If the requirement in (a), above is waived, the internship must be an APA-accredited doctoral program. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, Psychology Series 0180 + IOR BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: Clinical psychology: Satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying a working knowledge of clinical psychology, human performance enhancement within neurocognitive and psychosocial domains, and improving personal resiliency. Utilizing knowledge of evidence-based treatments and standards of clinical practice for a full range of psychological disorders to plan and provide treatment to patients. Preparing accurate written documentation in patient care and providing guidance and consultant services to medical professionals, managers, and clients. Gathering, synthesizing, and applying data, including psychological testing, interviews, medical/non-medical records to the identification and mitigation of population risks. Planning, organizing, and directing the functions and staff of a small (or larger) organization. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Substantive professional knowledge of clinical psychology, human performance enhancement within neurocognitive and psychosocial domains, and improving personal resiliency. 2. Expert knowledge of evidence-based treatments and standards of clinical practice for a full range of psychological disorders to plan and provide treatment to patients. 3. Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of select psychological and psycho-social measures to properly assess patient's and family's needs. 4. Skill to prepare accurate written documentation in patient care and provide guidance and consultant services to medical professionals, managers, and clients. 5. Ability to gather, synthesize, and apply data, including psychological testing, interviews, medical/non-medical records to the identification and mitigation of population risks. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small organization. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
