Duties
Establishes accounting records needed to provide accountability and control by sub-program and type of expense over funds received, disbursements, collections, and general ledger account balances.
Reviews and processes complex accounting transactions ensuring the validity of supporting documentation, and determining the appropriate account and methodology for processing.
Analyzes, controls, audits and maintains ledgers, journals, subsidiary, control, summary, and/or detail accounts for serviced activities as reflected in the DFAS Standard General Ledger Chart of Accounts.
Receives and controls payments for serviced accounts through accounting system(s) to ensure that all transactions are processed accurately.
Reviews purchase orders, contracts, and travel orders pertaining to claims or other similar documents against obligated. funds. Certifies and audits all payments to assure compliance with terms.
Performs fiscal year-end review and close-out of accounts. Prepares year-end adjustment entries to balance accounts. Analyzes and prepares special reports on the causes of recurring adjustment actions.
For vacancies filled at less than the full performance level of the position, duties will be developmental in nature.

- The incumbent of this position will be required to be physically on-site full-time. Due to the nature of this work regular telework is not authorized for this position.
- Time after Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have served 3 months after latest competitive appointment in the Federal service.
- This national security position requires access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and a top secret security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05/06) within the federal service which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
GS-06 Specialized experience is defined as: At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 level if outside the federal service applying knowledge of accounting systems, policies and procedures for the examination, verification and maintenance of accounts and accounting data; validating, monitoring and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; researching discrepancies and making adjustments.
GS-06 Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-6, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-5 or higher in the Federal service.
GS-07 Specialized experience as a is defined as: At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-06 level if outside the federal service examining and maintaining accounts or financial ledgers; posting financial transactions; verifying entitlement documents; generating problem resolutions; preparing financial reports; reconciling accounts; and working with a variety of accounting and automated financial systems.
GS-07 Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-7, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-6 or higher in the Federal service.

Education
Substitution of Education for Experience at the GS-06 level: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is
directly related to the work of the position being filled.
Substitution of Education for Experience at the GS-07 level: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
