The primary purpose of this position is to perform aircraft worker duties involving on and off equipment maintenance associated with Dual Logistics Restraint Rail System and alternate mission equipment.

Duties

- Assists in the repair and maintenance of Alternate Mission Equipment for aircraft. - Accomplishes aircraft systems operations and troubleshooting using technical manuals, and followings approved maintenance procedures obtaining assistance from appropriate personnel when necessary. - Tests and checks systems identifying discrepancies with test standards or deficiencies in operation in a prompt and thorough manner. Conducts aircraft inspections and/or tests by visually. - Disassembles, examines, and reassembles aircraft tires and wheels. Promotes process improvement by actively participating in team or group efforts to provide needed products and services to meet customer needs. - Maintains awareness of the shop safety procedures and identifies unsafe practices and/or procedures to the supervisor. Maintains, and/or controls tools and equipment.

  • Will be required to work any shift and some overtime hours.
  • Aircraft mechanic duties are paramount; wheel and tire skills and knowledge will not be reflected during the recruiting process
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government driver's license. Required to drive a 1- and 1/2-ton truck with Tommy lift and operate all vehicles and equipment used in -21 configurations and wheel and tire build-up.
  • Environmental Code M -Employee may be exposed to hazardous noise levels.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT WORKER without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair of transport, tanker, and/or bomber, aircraft. (i.e. C-5, C-141, C-17, or KC-135). Skill in use and maintenance of measuring instruments and various mechanics' hand tools. 2. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, and technical orders. Knowledge of the makeup, operation and installation of a variety of alternate mission equipment, Wheel and tire assemblies on aircraft. 3. Ability to determine when new dual logistics restraint rails system, alternate mission equipment and/or wheels and tires should be installed, repaired or reworked, and the extent of adjustment required. 4. Ability to detect and isolate malfunctions and to determine when new assemblies, components and parts of alternate mission equipment, wheel and tire assemblies to aircraft should be installed, reworked, repaired, or adjusted. 5. Knowledge of how a variety of aircraft parts, accessories and components to include wheels and tires are now removed and assembled. 6. Knowledge of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment and materials, accounting and security. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. PHYSICAL WORK: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds) with mechanical lifting devices or with assistance from other workers. Moderate carrying (15-44 lb.) Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Requires extensive walking, working in closed places, prolinged standing, bending, and stooping. Climbing use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
