Duties

DUTY 1: Troubleshoots one or more types or models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines on the flight line, in test cells or maintenance shops. DUTY 2: Disassembles, repairs and reassembles aircraft engines, their assemblies and components. DUTY 3: Uses a variety of hand and power tools. DUTY 4: Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. DUTY 5: Will apply technical data and equipment specifications to determine the impact that equipment modifications or substitutions will have upon total system operation and on the various maintenance and alignment procedures to facilitate the Radar Modernization Program.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 - Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (Includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting KSAs 1. Knowledge of installation, operation, and repair of a variety of conventional and modified aircraft engines and accessory systems to troubleshoot, maintain, repair and/or test different types of engines; identify and correctly choose between alternative methods and trade techniques; adapt accepted repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engines or accessory systems; anticipate required tools and parts; set up the work area; determine degree of disassembly necessary, and the extent of rework required. 2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Skill in the use of diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment and systems, automated test equipment, standard and precision measuring instruments such as vibration analyzers, pyrometers, and test benches, and to use computer terminals or personal computers to obtain reference materials, and to update operational and maintenance records. 4. Ability to read and interpret technical orders, manufacturers' manuals, maintenance bulletins, complex multi-view blueprints, schematic drawings. and other technical information. 5. Ability to troubleshoot engine malfunctions, interpret trouble reports or observed instrument readings, appearances. etc.; make a tentative diagnosis; select needed tools and test equipment; and disassemble the engine or accessory system to locate the defect. 6. Ability to adapt emerging technology and use new tools, test devices, digital diagnostic equipment, and engine analysis software in the repair and rework of engine parts and components and replace access01ies such as portions of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
