This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Hampton VA Medical Center in Environmental Management Service. The primary duties of the position are: cleaning, polishing, and sanitizing all environmental surfaces to include but not limited to surgical operating rooms, patient care bedrooms, research and clinical labs, clinical procedure and exam rooms, offices, and public spaces.

Duties

Perform a variety of sanitation duties in patient wards, clinics, waiting rooms, outpatient facilities, research, laboratories, administrative areas, storage areas, etc. Use manual and power equipment to sweep, scrub, mop, and buff floors. Utilize approved procedures in the various cleaning operations, such as sanitizing toilets and bathroom fixtures, collecting trash, cleaning mirrors, partitions, trash containers, filling dispensers with soap and paper supplies, etc. Dust and wash window sills, walls, ceilings, furniture, vents, light globes, doors, fans, etc. Deliver clean linen and/or collect soiled linen. Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, toilet bowls; clean sinks, water fountains etc. Remove contaminated waste, operate trash compactors, clean rugs, using heavy (industrial type) vacuum cleaners. Adjust, cleans, and oils these machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Perform other related duties as assigned. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/10/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be physically able to do continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing; lifting and moving heavy objects such as heavy duty cleaning equipment and other objects; and climbing step ladders. The duties require considerable dexterity, hand, foot and eye coordination, and concentration. Work Conditions: The work is normally performed in indoor areas that have adequate heat, light, and ventilation; however, employee may work outdoor at times. The incumbent is exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors and is exposed to conditions inherent in cleaning tasks such as chapped hands, and irritation from cleaning compounds and detergents. There is a chance of minor injuries (cuts, bruises).
