This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The position is located at the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, Fleet Management Expansion (FMX), Fort Moore, GA.
Duties
Perform a wide variety of rebuilding and repairing tasks using well-proven parts, equipment, and work processes.
Skill in reading schematic diagrams of hydraulic and electrical system.
Ability to inspect and troubleshoot artillery and tank component parts to identify defective equipment.
Knowledge of various Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) such as test lights, STE-Ml test sets, Multimeters, stabilization test sets, breakout test sets, calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches and working to close tolerances.
Determine artillery repair and replacement of parts for equipment.
Select a variety of tools for use to assure all equipment adjustment and setting meet work orders and or specification requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 60 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Artillery Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Artillery Repairer duties. Rebuild and assemble weapons/weapons systems or a variety of major components. Read specifications, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to determine clearances, torque pressures, and proper meshing and adjustment of assemblies. Determine the amount of wear inside a gun tube or recoil cylinder using star gages, pullover gages, or using a borescope to check a gun tube for defects. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort - Individual is required to do an excessive amount of climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and working overhead. Works in confined and dark areas and in awkward positions. Most parts and assemblies lifted have an average weight of 15 to 60 pounds. Weight handling equipment or assistance of other workers is available for heavier lifting requirements.
Working Conditions - Works mostly outside in daylight and darkness, in all extremes of weather and is subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, fumes, noise, dirt, grease, hydraulic oils and maybe exposed to radioactive material from damaged or broken fire control and sighting systems or damaged turret/hull armor. The possibility also exists for exposure to direct and indirect laser light.
