About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the ST-IC-W1E8AA USA INTELLIGENCE CTR OF EXCELLENCE.

Duties

Provide comprehensive occupational therapy (OT) services to maximize Soldier performance and improve unit readiness. Serve as part of an interdisciplinary team and provides direct OT and consultative services for the Health and Fitness (H2F) mental readiness program. Address psychosocial, cognitive, physical, occupational, and environmental barriers and opportunities to prevent injury, mitigate injury risk, and facilitate rapid return to duty following injury. Address performance and health and wellness behaviors to include lifestyle habits, routines, sleep patterns, self-awareness, communication, cohesion, anger/stress management, and problem-solving skills. Mitigate risk of combat and operational stress reactions and restore function to Soldiers experiencing combat and operational stress, traumatic brain injury, and neuromusculoskeletal injury. Liaise with the H2F team, leadership, and the installation's military treatment facility (MTF) Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Surgical and Rehabilitative Services, Behavioral Health, Radiology, and Orthopedic services. Plan, coordinate, and implement goal-oriented group and/or behavioral-focused individual OT treatment programs, selecting activities to increase or improve muscle strength, range of motion, coordination. Apply the use of therapeutic modalities and new integrative techniques and technologies for the purpose of evaluation and ongoing treatment. Incorporate psychosocial and environmental factors that contribute to the impact of injury or illness on daily life and functional performance. Provide Soldier education on the injury/disease process and its effect on function, joint protection, energy conservation, ergonomic needs, work simplification, and cognitive compensatory techniques. Integrate expertise with that of the H2F team to arrive at coordinated, holistic care plans designed to achieve the H2F program objectives. Assess occupational performance patterns in individual Soldiers or groups of Soldiers and implements OT interventions designed to improve performance and reduce risk for future injury. Gather H2F program data and creates unit readiness reports to identify effectiveness of H2F program against established metrics. Participate in H2F update and programming briefs. Communicate H2F program data and unit readiness reports Communicates H2F program data and unit readiness reports. Provide H2F occupational therapy program oversight and direction to the occupational therapy assistant(s) OTA(s) assigned to the unit.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • May be required to work overtime and/or other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • May be assigned a government cell phone and be required to be in an On-Call status after hours and on weekends.
  • Must attend and complete all program identified training.
  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

Basic Requirements for Occupational Therapist (Holistic Health and Fitness): Degree: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included an occupational therapy curriculum approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. Certification: Applicants must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the specialized experience requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: To qualify, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which demonstrates a practical knowledge of occupational therapy as demonstrated by (1) performing occupational therapy evaluations in adult populations; (2) implementing therapeutic modalities aimed at performance optimization; and, (3) coordinating with an interdisciplinary team. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service (GG/GS-11).
