You will serve as a Physicist, Oceanographer,or Mathematician in the Ocean Products Division, Ocean Projects Department of the Naval Oceanographic Office of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will serve as a senior level expert in both resolving acoustic numerical modeling problems and validating ambient noise, transmission loss, and reverberation measurements.
You will cope with difficult problems requiring innovative solutions based on broad interdisciplinary experience.
You will analyze data from all sources that have a bearing on the successful operation of shallow water models.
You will prepare comprehensive written reports and provides succinct oral briefings on work performed by the Division.
You will lead teams of other scientists and engineers during field operations for the collection of data and information supporting Division objectives.
You will interact with high level scientists, managers, sponsors, and military personnel.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: A mastery experience of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of the physical sciences including physics, oceanography, and mathematics sufficient to solve new and difficult problems in underwater acoustics not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods. Experience resolving acoustic numerical modeling problems and validating ambient noise, transmission loss, and reverberation measurements and comprehensive understanding of mathematical basis for acoustic modeling, partial differential equations, numerical integration, complex variables and error analyses. Experience utilizing and maintaining equipment and systems utilized during geophysical and acoustic surveys, survey logistics, procedures and methods utilized to collect geophysical and acoustic data, and post-collection data processing and analysis. Experience in oceanographic fieldwork, the deployment and recovery of instrument systems, and the at sea analysis of data. Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing as well as the ability to establish effective working relationships and participate in high level planning conferences with senior staff regarding geophysical/acoustic data and the implementation of data sets that support shallow water modeling.

Education
Basic Education Requirement:
1310- Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physics, or a related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. Courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, course in any of two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
1360- Successful completion of a degree with a major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.
1520- Successful completion of a degree in mathematics or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
