Duties
Serves as a Data Scientist, providing professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of mathematics, statistical analysis, programming, and/or other scientific principles, methods, and techniques.
Perform data engineering functionality by creating custom code (SQL/Python/Java/Jython etc.) for data transformations.
Supports DFAS data ingestion operations by ingesting periodic datasets, verifies successful ingestion, and updates existing data pipelines as required.
Develops dashboards (Qlik), including data visualizations and data load scripts using existing Advana data sources.
Reports task status to DFAS management and functional POCs during team meetings, email, and/or JIRA as appropriate.
Collaborates with other team members to communicate obstacles and findings to relevant stakeholders in an effort to improve decision-making and drive business performance.
Prepares and presents briefings and makes presentations regarding the progress and/or results of projects/studies.

Qualifications
This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. This position has a positive education requirement. To qualify for this position you must meet one of the basic requirements described below:
A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade in the Federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
GS-12: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized Experience is defined as: Developing data models for evaluation, identification, collection, and analysis of all data used to support projects or programs; selecting the appropriate data collection techniques for program analysis from various sources; collecting and analyzing data, and displaying data for analysis to draw conclusions.
GS-13: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
Specialized Experience is defined as: Applying professional and scientific knowledge of mathematical, statistical analysis, programming techniques, and methods to gather, analyze, design and construct new processes for analytical modeling, interpreting models, and/or reporting quantitative information, trends, relationships and correlations among or within data.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
