The full performance, Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advance technician for outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT Generalist the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient
clinic (CBOC), mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Observes patient status and keeps licensed personnel informed of any change in condition
Provides geriatric-specific care
Performs Patient Transport with or without cardiac monitor
Administration of medication
Assists licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations
Responds to medical emergencies as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT), Code: Blue team, or medical transportation team
Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS, use of automatic external defibrillator and assists with airway management using bag-valve-mask (BVM, oral airway and nasal airway
Performs cardiovascular monitoring to include providing support, relief, and coverage as needed to central station telemetry
Recognizing lethal rhythms/arrhythmias (i.e. ventricular fibrillation and asystole) and immediately notifies appropriate staff.
Collects and handles specimens appropriately
Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an emergency setting
Performs Vital Signs. Intervenes and escalates appropriately
Operates specialized medical equipment and assists with patient exams and settings
Performs observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel
Interacts with emergency department patients and family members/friends/caregivers to communicate status updates, plan of care, and disposition
Interacts with emergency department providers and nursing staff to communicate condition, changes, and status treatment plan implementation
Work Schedule: 3:00 pm - 3:30 am with rotating weekends and Holidays

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/02/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 grade level.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-07:Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Guiding, assisting, establishing, monitoring and tracking the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of programs; arranging meetings and assisting in preparing reports/communications; collecting administrative data; utilizing computer databases and registries; reviewing cost items and volume and validating data; assisting on provider audits; time-keeping, email, training items, personal identity/verification and computer access.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 1 full year of graduate level education. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work involves extended periods of bending, standing and walking. Generally, the work requires recurring physical exertion with assisting patients.
Work Environment: On a regular and recurring basis, employee is exposed to infection, exposure to communicable diseases and contagious diseases. The incumbent's assignment requires him/her to comply with special safety and health precautions by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) according to universal precautions.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-07 level. You must have successfully completed one full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of this position.
