About the Position: This position is under the Acquisition Demonstration Project. The NJ-04 broadband incorporates former (GS equivalents) GS-12 step 1 through GS-13 step 10 grade levels and salary levels. Serve as senior Mechanical Engineering Technician assigned to the Manufacturing and Engineering Directorate.
Duties
Exercise full technical responsibility for the installation, setup, operation and modification, maintenance, reliability, and accuracy of a diverse array of highly complex ammunition production, demilitarization, or renovation equipment.
Provide qualitative review and interpretation of the data obtained and advises the project engineer of the results and overall program status.
Design, fabricate, install, and verify operation of new instrumentation and modifies existing subsystems or components based upon the need to improve overall system performance.
Perform acceptance tests on new instrumentation to establish performance parameters.
Participate in the work of various committees, panels, and other unofficial working groups that are concerned with matters related to the assigned operational areas.
Keep abreast of the latest developments in a variety of equipment operations and developments to evaluate for work performed.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles and must possess and maintain installation driving privileges.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Therefore, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.
- Temporary duty (TDY) business travel is required less than 25% of the time.

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, including: applying a wide range of technical engineering methods, techniques, and procedures relating to the manufacture of complex parts, special tooling, and fixtures for the production of ammunition or explosives. Planning, designing, and/or recommending the layout of equipment to optimize production requirements. This definition of specialized experience is equivalent to the next lower grade (NJ-03).
