This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Coast Guard Academy, Admissions Division Operations Branch, New London, CT.
Duties
The purpose of the position is to supervise the Operations Branch responsible for cadet admissions and the enrollment processes of the United States Coast Guard Academy. You will exercise responsibility for the collection and use of sensitive personal information; apply a body of laws as well as regulations pertaining to admissions decision making; maintain internet technologies, communication systems, and databases to support the admissions process; direct the activities of cadet selection boards; and serve as a senior specialist providing direction to assigned staff.

- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Qualifications
Qualifications for GS-13: At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level is required. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples include:
Overseeing, supervising, planning, scheduling and conducting projects and studies to evaluate and recommend improving the effectiveness and efficiency of a College Level Admissions program.
Interpreting and applying the body of law pertaining to college admissions and affirmative action; applying selective undergraduate college admissions practices.
Developing new or modified work methods, organizational structures, records and files, management processes, staffing patterns, procedures for administering program services.
Analyzing and making recommendations concerning the centralization or centralization of operations.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
