This position is located at the Fort Belknap Service Unit in Harlem, MT and serves as a Paramedic (EMT-P). The primary purpose of this position is to perform advanced technicial health care extended functions within the emergency medical arena in response to various accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness. The incumbent reports to the EMS Director or designee.

Duties

Perform technical health care extender functions by identifying and treating trauma/medical emergencies using advanced level medical techniques that will most effectively sustain the patients life. Perform a range of diagnostic support duties including taking vital signs, collecting routine specimens, setting out medical instruments and assist with examinations by positioning and draping patients. Prepare appropriate transport documents, replace supplies, and ensure sanitation and cleanliness of patient transport vehicles. Communicate orally and in writing with medical and ancillary personnel using skills in emergency communication techniques and the operation of radio equipment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level obtained in either the public or private sector. ~ OR ~ One (1) full year of graduate education in an area of study directly related to the work of this position. ~ OR ~ A combination of education and specialized experience listed above. One (1) year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours unless the school has determined otherwise. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level Identifies and treats trauma/medical emergencies using advanced knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques, employee identifies the signs and symptoms of life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical trauma injuries. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS Selective factors are knowledge, skills, abilities, or special qualifications that are in addition to the minimum requirements in a qualification standard, but are determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
