You will serve as a WELDER in the Public Works of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will perform a variety of complete welding assignments using manual, electric arc/inert gas shielded, gas torch or similar welding process to repair, modify or fabricate all types of metal and alloy parts, equipment or components.
You will plan and lay out the work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
You will apply a variety of manual welding processes to make welds, e.g., welds in hard to reach places that must meet close tolerance, strength, and other requirements.
You will use accepted trade practices and techniques to achieve complete penetration and/or fusion of dissimilar metals while preventing distortion or burning.
You will use blueprints, sketches, work orders, specifications, or other guides to plan, layout, and complete assignments.
Requirements
- You will be required to be CPR certified.
- You may be required to operate licensed mobile cranes and motor vehicles requiring licensing for up to 2 ton vehicles.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your resume must show you are able to perform the following:
1) Welding, in limited combinations, conducting a variety of electric and gas resistance welding processes such as electron and beam welding;
2) Assembling and setting up parts to be welded;
3) Making the required welds following guides such as resistance welding control charts, specifications, accepted shop practices, and oral and written instructions from the supervisor.
