This position is established at the Erie VA Medical Center in the Facilities Management Service (FMS) to perform work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of all piping systems such as high temperature water, high pressure steam, nitrous oxide, oxygen gas, steam generating hot/cold water, air, drain and vent systems. Works in the Maintenance and Repair Section to run and analyze samples and adjust as needed.

Duties

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Plumber/PD025940 Duties include but not limited to: Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers; Works from blueprints, building plans, and sketches to plan and layout the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment; Installs, modifies, and repairs systems by locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope, and determining and installing valves, traps, and unions needed for proper operation of systems; installs equipment like that described above by completing the routing and placement of systems leading to the equipment, and seating, hooking up, and testing the equipment; Where the quality of water is below acceptable prescribed standards and requires non-filtration and filtrations processes to change the taste, odor, or chemical content of the water; Makes regular checks of pumping equipment, gauges, meters, feeders, and the recording and control devices according to a prescribed schedule and performs routine operator maintenance; May be required to operate a government vehicle to transport equipment to and from a work site. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
