About the Position: This position is located at 56th Medical Group, Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification is preferred.

Duties

Receive, review, and fill prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs. Determine type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standing operating procedures. Enter prescriptions into outpatient computer system, reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders. Provide instructions to patients on proper use of medication, referring questions to the registered pharmacist. Collaborate with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions. Operate pharmacy equipment to fill and label prescriptions and maintain to ensure are in good working order.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Tuberculin testing is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • May be required to work weekend call duties and evenings.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Pharmaceutical Identification and FormulationPharmacy Customer ServicePharmacy Operations Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
