About the Position:The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance.
Duties
Perform dimensional examinations and operational tests on individual bearings and bearing components.
Determine the acceptability of bearings for initial use or continued service by comparing actual dimensions, tolerances, quality characteristics, and test results to technical specifications.
Inspect to determine serviceability of bearings, lubricate and preserve bearings, and perform examinations and evaluations.
Rebuild bearings by gauging, and selecting compatible inner and outer races, cages, and rolling elements from new or salvageable materials.
This is a developmental position. If the selection should be at the lower grade level the incumbent will perform duties under closer than normal supervision. Assignments become progressively more difficult until the full performance level is reached.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a Tier 1: Non-Sensitive, Low Risk background investigation.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- A pre-appointment physical examination is required.
- Must obtain and maintain a Level I, II, or III Bearing Reconditioner Certification as determined by the local Certifying Official appointed IAW TM 55-1500-322, Section XVI. This includes meeting Physical, OJT, and Formal Training Requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-4250-05: Ability to do the work of a Bearing Worker without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of the following the ability to perform common tasks such as follow directions use simple tools to clean, assemble, and package. Can read basic technical data. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-4250-07: Ability to do the work of a Bearing Worker without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of the following the ability to perform common tasks in the use of bearing processing equipment and hand tools necessary to clean and polish bearing surfaces. Use proper cleaning techniques and procedures for various types of bearings, the application of specific types and amounts of lubricants and preservatives, and the setup and operation of simple packaging, sealing, and labeling equipment, to accomplish packaging requirements. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-4250-09: Ability to do the work of a Bearing Reconditioner without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of the following the ability to perform common task such as rebuild bearings from matched salvageable parts and perform visual, tactile, and auditory examinations on processed (assembled and disassembled) bearings. Determine the extent of rework and/or condition that may warrant additional processing or rejection (e.g., bearings with surface imperfections). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Long periods of standing/sitting are required. Frequent walking, bending, and reaching is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated area. The work takes place in an environmentally-controlled clean room where cleanliness procedures must be adhered to and special clothing (coveralls, hoods, shoe coverings) must be worn while working. The work involves exposure to cleaning solvents, fumes, lubricants, and preservatives. Subject to cuts, bruises, burns, and abrasions from bearings and tools/equipment. Subject to eye strain from using microscopes and low power magnifying equipment. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job.
