This position is located in the New Mexico State Office, in the Division of Land and Resources, in Santa Fe or Albuquerque, NM.

Duties

Serve as the BLM NM/OK/TX/KS State Office Wildlife Habitat Management Program Lead in the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) New Mexico State Office (NMSO). Serve as the principle staff specialist to the State Director on wildlife biology program issues. Develop procedures and standards, and review and interpret program policy. Provide advice and guidance on issues of current research in the field, and its application to bureau habitat management, automation of wildlife management programs, and policy determination and interpretation. Serve as the BLM representative on interagency committees.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Basic Requirement AND the Minimum Qualification requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application. Basic Requirement for the Wildlife Biologist GS-0486 Series: 1. Education: Successful complete of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological science that included: at t least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR, 2. Combination of Education and Experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND, MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: Specialized Experience GS-12 : Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: (1) providing program leadership, management, and coordination in Wildlife Programs; (2) resolving or avoiding problems in habitat restoration, construction, and program management using experience in animal ecology and population dynamics, (3) writing and consolidating budget submissions for annual work plans, midyear reviews, end of year reports, and other major budget exercises (4) using current research in the field that applies to bureau habitat management, automation of wildlife management programs, and policy determination and interpretation. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade.
