Duties
As a Health Scientist (Intelligence), you will:
Provide technical advice and assistance on matters involving the nexus of intelligence, national security, and public health, in the area of laboratory sciences, infectious diseases, chemical and/or radiological.
Serve as advisor for the planning, design, implementation, and analysis of public health intelligence projects.
Provide daily public health advice and assistance of CDC's scientific intelligence analysis and daily intelligence functions and review of medical and public health intelligence documents.
Produce current intelligence analysis on the threats posing the most harm to national security.
Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of health threats.
Perform intelligence analysis, to resolve critical problems, to isolate and define unknown conditions, or to develop new approaches, methods, guides or standards for use by other health scientist.
Gather, and disseminate relevant intelligence information on disease outbreaks and other public health events.
Provide written reports, assessments, and briefings to appropriate laboratory or program directors, senior management and policymakers on global health issues and responds to requests for information from other USG agencies.
Establish, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with other Federal agencies, state and local governments, foreign governments, and public and private institutions concerning the full spectrum of public health national security matters, including facilitating requests for information and exchanging relevant scientific information.
Serve as a liaison for public health intelligence health for all classified and unclassified intelligence regarding at the highest levels of national security clearance.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: serving as scientific authority on public health matters to include the nexus of intelligence, national security and public health in the area of laboratory sciences, infectious diseases, global health security, public health programs and/or national security.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
