Provides administrative and clerical support to the Nursing Business Office at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Health Administration, located in Augusta, GA.

Duties

Duties of this position includes but not limited to: Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls. Where personnel are unavailable takes messages and/or provides information as to availability of the supervisor Provides information within standard office procedure, generally pertaining to any of the duty areas herein described, and within caller's "need to know". Reviews documents prepared for signature of or requiring coordination by management for appropriate tone; conformance with regulations, grammar, format, and special policies of the activity; and completeness of information. Returns inadequate communications to originator for correction when not in conformance with known policies, or when correspondence regulations have not been followed Reviews and prepares all congressional correspondence received by the activity for necessary action. A qualified Typist is required with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm. Types into final form from written material, brief instructions and/or voice recordings pertaining to intra-agency and public correspondence, narrative and tabulated reports, travel documents, personnel actions, etc., using manual, electric, or automated typing equipment Proofreads completed work for accuracy in spelling, grammatical construction, and punctuation, and checks to assure presence of necessary enclosures. Reviews documents prepared for signature of or requiring coordination by management for appropriate tone; conformance with regulations, grammar, format, and special policies of the activity; and completeness of information. Knowledge of the terminology related to the field that enables the incumbent to type materials and transcribe dictation with accuracy Returns inadequate communications to originator for correction when not in conformance with known policies, or when correspondence regulations have not been followed Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 to 3:30 or 7:30 - 4:00; subject to change depending on the needs of the agency. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/28/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment; answering and directing phone calls; receiving visitors; preparing correspondence; maintaining files/records; and using a computer to perform a variety of support tasks; scheduling and managing a calendar of appointments You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to DetailClericalComputer SkillsOral CommunicationWriting Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
