This supervisory position is located in the Audiology & Speech Pathology Section of Surgical Service at the Memphis VA Medical Center. The duties and responsibilities are carried out in the veterans' homes, in Home Based Primary Care, at the Memphis VAMC, and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics including but not limited to Jackson, TN, Jonesboro, AR, and Tupelo, MS.
Duties
The Supervisory Audiologist provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Audiology and Speech Pathology Section to ensure the achievement of the clinical, research, and education goals and applicable performance measures.
Major duties for this position include (but are not limited to):
Consult management for audiology and speech including reconciling and offering additional scheduling options to pending >30 days, no action taken >2 days, scheduled linked to past, auditing for errors in receptions and routing.
Work as a member of the Referral Coordination Team to route consults most efficiently.
Ensure audiology and speech consults are dispositioned within 48 hours.
Ensure audiology and speech consults are dispositioned, answered, and routed using current guidelines.
Check clinic access between all types of clinics at all locations; ensure both routine diagnostics, rehab, and special testing patients are scheduled within 28 days.
Determine methods to open new access to care when needed.
Consult regularly with Tupelo Lead and Tele audio Coord re: wait times for virtual modality at 6 locations.
Ensure maximized bookability of all grids and ensure best practices are in place.
Ensure protocols are followed which leads to comprehensive care.
Ensure accurate and comprehensive coding based on thorough CPRS note documentation.
Assist new SLP hire with consult placements and dispositions as a new staff member; ensure no loss of productivity due to being new to the position.
Support home-based audiologists in difficult cases and as needed in patient's homes.
Work with the timekeeper to ensure accurate time entries.
Expedite inpatient consults-which are not scheduled by the consult team.
Call all patients requesting community care and highlight VA attributes and timeliness. Actively avoid forwarding consults directly to the community without discussing with the patient.
Use current regulations related to community care when a consult does need to be forwarded including the use of correct SEOC and patient preference collections.
Provide coverage in Memphis when staff calls in.
Assign an extern schedule to maintain the balance between call-ins and a diverse learning placement.
Facilitate onboarding of FY24 funded audiology students including LEAF submission and HR Smart submissions as indicated.
Complete Standards of Excellence when due-OAA student request application.
Serve as the liaison between U of M and Education/ADPAC for onboarding rotating students.
Travel to Jackson, Jonesboro, and Tupelo as needed to ensure program success including timeliness standards and coverage for staff absences.
Ensure earmolds are made at least monthly in Jonesboro which often requires travel for assistance.
Issue updated productivity data pulls to all staff with input on how to improve capture of workload.
Ensure dysphagia directive 1171 is met every weekend or during holiday weekends.
Ensure coverage of the repair clinic between two health technicians including coverage for call-ins.
Ensure inventory is completed weekly and mail outs and check-ins occur daily or as appropriate.
Ensure quality of care for patients seen by health technicians and students.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a).
Education.
(1) Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-
Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The CAA is the only accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit entry-level audiology programs. HR office staff and management officials may verify the program accredited from CAA at www.caa.asha.org.
OR
(2) Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the USDE.
NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the CAA in Audiology and Speech- Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AuD
programs in audiology.
Licensure. Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory,
commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
Grade Determinations: Audiologist, GS-13.
(1) Experience. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess at least two years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level.
(2) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the KSAs required at the full performance level, the following KSAs are
required:
Skill in communicating established performance benchmarks to a service or equivalent organizational department.
Skill in implementing continual performance improvement activities to meet performance benchmarks
Ability to perform a full scope of managerial responsibilities.
Ability to lead audiologists, speech-language pathologists and/or professionals within associated disciplines.
Ability to develop contingencies to ensure continual service operations.
(3) Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity and range
of variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. These positions serve as service chiefs managing stand-alone services,
product lines or service lines. They typically have line and staff authority for resource allocations within the area of responsibility and ensure the
efficient operation of the organizational unit. They have broad and overall responsibility for the service-level department and full responsibility for
clinical practice, program management, education, human resource management and supervision for the service, as appropriate. They
autonomously manage substantive parts of specialized, complex, professional services that significantly impact Veterans' care. They provide
leadership with objective, independent assessments and recommendations for policy, operational and administrative issues and initiatives requiring
decision and action.
Preferred Experience: Minimum 5 years as a licensed audiologist; minimum 3 years experience working with cochlear implants and/or vestibular evaluations/treatment; documented experience precepting/mentoring graduate students in audiology; and documented experience in leadership and/or management role(s).

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, stretching and light lifting (under 15 pounds); light carrying (under 15 pounds); use of fingers; both hands required; repeated bending (.5 hours); near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; hearing with aid. Applicants must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others.
English Language Proficiency: Audiologist candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
