The incumbent is responsible for providing medical/nursing care for the students enrolled in the program. The medical, dental, and nursing care needs are not predictable, but are normally of a non-critical nature.

Duties
Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
Collaborate with and assist members of the health care team in collecting data for assessing, planning, executing and evaluating the nursing care of patients.
Observe, report, and record general and specific physical and behavioral signs and symptoms indicative of change in patient's conditions.
Prepare and administer prescribed medications and observe for the desired action, dosage, and adversities of the medications.
Assist in administering immunizations and ensure immunization records are up to date.
Recognize physical, emotional, social, and cultural deviations from the norm enough to warrant medical intervention and treatment.

Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- CPR Certification.
- This is a Test Designated Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment and randomly thereafter. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
Qualifications

Basic Requirement:
Licensure: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses. License must be attached to application.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-7: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: giving medication as prescribed by a physician; basic wound care including cleaning and bandaging injured areas; taking medical histories; entering information into computer systems; assisting with patient care: recording vital signs; discussing and recording health concerns; performs tests; administers injections/immunizations; placing phone calls to pharmacies to order prescriptions; setting up referrals; pulling and preparing patient charts; explaining procedures and treatment protocols; performing other general office duties.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
