This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Commander, Atlantic Area, Joint Task Force - East, in Portsmouth, VA.
Duties
The position's primary purpose is to serve as Secretary to the Coast Guard Atlantic Area/Joint Task Force - East (JTF-E). You will be responsible for a variety of administrative and office automation duties that are auxiliary to the work of the organization. As Secretary, you will serves as the principal administrative and clerical support for the JTF-E Command Staff performing various duties for command staff. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications
AT THE GRADE LEVEL GS-08: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: preparing correspondence and other documents in proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format; receiving visitors, maintaining files, incoming correspondence, typographical errors; scheduling supervisor's activities, composing correspondence, resolving problems, locating information, organizing workflow of office.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
