Qualifications

NOTE:  You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as participating in the implementation and evaluation all functions necessary to comply with all laws directed at eliminating or controlling the risk of exposure and long-term health effects to personnel and the environment. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:  Knowledge of the professional concepts, principles, and practices of industrial hygiene. Ability to apply experience and judgment to solve novel or obscure problems. Skill in the use of the full range of industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation. Skill in technical report writing. Knowledge in the use of quantitative measurement techniques for evaluating the magnitude of environmental stresses and their effects on health, well-being, and efficiency. Ability to recognize environmental factors and stresses associated with complex work operations, and to ascertain their effects on the health and well-being of workers. Skill in oral communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

Industrial Hygienist - 0690

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related sciences; or a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).  NOTE:  Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
