Duties
Maintains accounting records and specialized ledgers to accurately record and report status of funds.
Performs accounting work in different areas such as cost data examination, balancing, and maintenance of accounts.
Responds to routine and non-routine customers and lower-graded technicians regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and procedures.
Perform analysis of transactions to determine cause of errors.
Research complex accounting data an performs extensive balancing and reconciling of accounts.
DUTIES DESCRIBED ABOVE REFLECT THE FULL PERFORMANCE LEVEL (GS-06) . DUTIES ASSIGNED TO AN ENTRY GRADE OF GS-05 WILL BE DEVELOPMENTAL IN NATURE.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-04) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience for GS-05 is defined as: using standardized procedures to process recurring financial transactions; Entering data into financial or payment systems; Correcting invalid/incorrect entries.
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience for the GS-06 is defined as: applying knowledge of accounting systems, policies and procedures for the examination, verification and maintenance of accounts and accounting data; validating, monitoring and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; researching discrepancies and making adjustments.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-5, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-4 or higher in the Federal service. To be considered for the GS-6, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-5 or higher in the Federal service.
You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
Education
GS-05 Substitution of Education for Experience: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled.
