You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER/ARCHITECT in the Naval Facilities Engineering Command within the Capital Improvement Business Line of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will begin all responsibility statements with 'You will'; each field should have no more than one sentence; list the responsibilities in a logical order; and avoid using federal or military jargon. 250 Characters. You will analyze project requirements to schedule or sequence work operations. You will evaluate contractor costs to verify design projects are completed at the most cost-efficient prices. You will develop solutions to resolve project conflicts and disagreements revolving around scope, criteria, regulatory requirements, technical architect-engineer problems, and areas of responsibility. You will determine the architectural and engineering impact, regulatory restrictions, and cost implications of proposed project change orders.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing consultative services on the entire range of architectural and engineering activities for facilities construction; 2) Administering construction contracts from pre-bid to completion; 3) Reviewing, assessing, and resolving construction design issues; 4) Leading, training, or mentoring others to achieve construction engineering objectives; and 5) Utilizing new developments and innovations to solve construction problems that do not have standard or readily available solutions. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
