Position is located in the Interior Design Unit of EMS. The incumbent of the position is assigned to a primary duty site.
Duties
Duties involve the painting of all interior and exterior areas of buildings. Employee is required to apply coating materials by any of the acceptable methods such as brush, roller and spray gun. Surfaces are prepared by:
Treating metal surfaces and objects by immersion in caustic or pickling compounds.
Cutting out plaster and sheet rock cracks and defects.
Patching and renewing surfaces.
Size and prime all types of surfaces (wood, plaster, sheet rock, masonary, etc.).
Coating materials are prepared by mixing, blending, and tinting of paints, stains, etc. In addition, employee is responsible for the hanging of wallpaper and decorative murals, marbling and graining, installing muslin on ceiling and walls, shading with stains, shellac, varnish or lacquer, matching and blending to produce a uniform finished surface, and the repair and refinishing of wood surfaces by filling in and shaping by the use of resins, plaster, and patching compounds.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds and platforms, and where the surfaces to be painted are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. This requires much standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May occasionally be required to handle equipment and furniture up to 40 pounds however, usual physical exertion is in the area of ten pounds.
Works indoors and outdoors in all types of climatic conditions. Works above floor and ground level. Works in forced ventilated areas. Occasionally works in poorly ventilated or illuminated areas and around unpleasant odors. Subject to falls from ladders, staging and scaffolds. Subject to eye irritation from paint, scale and trash. Illness from inhalation of fumes and skin irritation from various types of paint material. Employee may be subjected
10 discomfort of wearing respirator, goggles, protective clothing and other safety equipment.
