The incumbent will serve as Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) area of Logistics Services within Kansas City VA center. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising, and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores, and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.

As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising, and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores, and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities; Advises, counsels, and instructs employees on work and administrative manners, such as complaints, grievances, etc.; Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production; Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new, complex, or unusual situations and those without clear precedence; Oversees management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock, monitor expiration dates and rotating stock, ensure critical supplies are monitored, perform daily inventory, resolve differences in records, distribute items, deliver supplies in a timely manner, and complete specialty cart preparation; Oversees the receipt of supplies and materials into the medical center; Ensures supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas; Analyzes and resolves difficult issues and problems to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions; Conducts market research on all new products and ensures they are recorded in the automated inventory system; Ensures availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system; Analyzes management reports to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends, correct errors, and resolve problems; Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors, and other staff throughout the medical center on Logistics issues; and Communicates with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Telework: Ad-hoc (VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the following: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) position. Specialized experience: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitoring expiration dates; ensuring supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of work production and quality of work. You will be rated on the following competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues. Managing Human Resources: Plans, distributes, coordinates, and monitors work assignments of others; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed and that they are treated fairly and equitably. Customer Service: Works and communicates with clients and customers (e.g. any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit provides, including individuals who work in your agency or in other agencies or organizations outside the Government) to satisfy their expectations. Technology Application: Uses machines, tools, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer applications/systems to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format. Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages( occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds. Works primarily in a supply office and supply distribution points that support the Storage and Distribution of supplies. Multiple interruptions are experienced throughout the day resulting from telephone and personal contact with individuals requiring information, guidance, or problem-solving. Protective and special clothing is worn to prevent exposure to dangerous materials; hair covers, shoe covers, and gloves are worn as required when delivering supplies into clean/sterile areas and managing verification of inventory stock levels within the primaries. Physical dispersion of the facility may make it necessary to make deliveries over uneven terrain and/or in adverse weather conditions.
