This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Pollinators Health Research Unit in Stoneville, MS.
In this position, you will actively participate as a team member with the scientist in all phases of the research process and assume full technical and operational responsibility for specific phases of the research.
Duties
Collect, prepare, evaluate, and verify biological samples.
Tabulate, statistically analyze, and summarize data using software packages.
Count and collect insects in the field and laboratory; verify samples and supporting records in support of insect research project.
Search for literature pertinent to new procedures or techniques to use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
Determine the kind and frequency of tests, observations, etc., to be made and the amount of data to be recorded.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience participating in an experiment or research project related to insects; performing land management operations; and operating or maintaining scientific equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include agricultural engineering, environmental science, biological science, or a similar degree with a focus on agriculture or entomology.
OR
A combination of graduate-level education and experience as described above.
GS-08

The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience conducting an experiment or research project related to insects or plants; collecting or evaluating samples related to insects or plants; recording or analyzing scientific data; and operating and maintaining scientific equipment.

GS-09

The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience conducting an experiment or research project related to insects or plants; collecting or evaluating samples related to insects or plants; operating and maintaining scientific equipment or performing scientific techniques; recording and analyzing scientific data; and preparing scientific information to be included in manuscripts or reports.

Education: Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include agricultural engineering, environmental science, biological science, or a similar degree with a focus on agriculture or entomology.

A combination of graduate-level education and experience as described above.
