About the Position: The incumbent will provide reference librarian services to meet the needs of the students, faculty, and researchers in the Fort Leavenworth community.
Duties
The duties performed at the GS-7 level are the same as the duties of the full performance level (GS-9) but are performed with more-than-normal supervision. This list is not all-inclusive:
Provide comprehensive research and information assistance to undergraduate and graduate level library customers and the Fort Leavenworth community.
Access specialized research resources, on-line databases and other libraries to assist clientele.
Instruct users on the use of library resources.
Conduct library tours and briefings.
Compile comprehensive or selected bibliographies.
Prepare monthly statistical reports.
Participate in library collection development projects.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret security clearance.
- The nature of this position may require the incumbent to work irregular hours of duty to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- This position may require temporary duty up to 5% of the time.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical and annual physical examinations thereafter.
- This position has a lifting requirement of up to 44 pounds.

Individual Occupational Requirements: The Librarian occupation has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions:
To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level:
Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. (NOTE: You MUST submit ALL your transcripts.)

A total of at least five (5) years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. For the GS-9 grade level: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification and/or education requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience conducting reference services, assisting with collection development/maintenance, and providing instructional services to patrons.

Education: Successful completion of a Master's degree library science or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement for GS-7: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Time in Grade Requirement for GS-9: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
