This position serves as a Recreation Fee Clerk in any organizational unit within the National Park Service (NPS). The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties associated with the collection of fee revenue and donations collected from the public. .

Duties

Experience collecting and accounting for monies. Performing opening and closing shift functions according to standard operating procedures. Troubleshooting accounting errors or problems. Verifying transaction records, including money collected and stock sold, to complete shift reports. Accurately collecting cash and other payments in a cost operation, such as an entrance station, movie theater, grocery store, or restaurant. Calculating costs, making change and/or processing credit card transactions for customer purchases/payments. Filling out daily shift accounting reports to account for sales. Taking precautions with funds collected or accountable stock to safeguard from theft, fraud, and misuse. Inventorying supplies and/or accountable stock and identify the need to place an order. Selling merchandise or accountable property (such as recreation area passports, season tickets, or activity passes). Serving as a front-line customer service representative greeting customers/visitor, answering questions, and responding to comments and complaints. Resolving customer or visitor complaints by taking appropriate corrective action. Explaining the importance of rules or regulations concerning the protection of the area resources (e.g., Leave No Trace), and/or the safety of visitors. Answering recurring visitor (or customer) questions while maintaining a professional demeanor. Providing current, accurate information to the public about the surrounding recreational opportunities, historic, cultural, or natural resources of interest in the area. Demonstrating understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern in handling adversarial, contentious, hostile, or otherwise stressful situations. Interacting with a diverse public representing a cross-section of the nation and other countries to include different cultures; ages; social, ethnic, and economic groups, etc. Maintaining courtesy and rapport when handling a high volume of customer and/or visitor contacts. Operating electronic cash register, point-of-sale system, or similar automated system or software to conduct financial transactions. Troubleshooting minor malfunctions on fee-related technology and equipment. Operating general computer software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, or database (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, or similar operating systems) to maintain records.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/01/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized Experience is experience that involved progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Recreation Fee Clerk. General experience includes collecting and handling cash, checks, and credit cards and can accurately complete standard mathematical calculations, greeting the public, providing information, and giving direction. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Have two full years of graduate level education in a related field such as: clerical and/or office automation. You must include transcripts. -OR- Have one of the following Superior Academic Achievement: (1) Class Standing - Must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision. (2) Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) - I have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (3) Honor Society Membership - I have a membership in a national scholastic honor society. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
