This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position provides professional clinical social work services in support of Mental Health programs for the 99th Medical Group, Mental Health Flight and Military Treatment Facility.

Duties

Provide evidence-based psychotherapy for complex psychiatric/social issues such as mental health conditions or emotional challenges. Establish treatment plans to identify a patient's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and determine what assistance is needed. Provide therapeutic measures geared towards securing cognitive and behavioral adjustment by recognizing and resolving issues related to patient's attitude towards themselves, family and/or others. Conduct intake evaluations and psycho-diagnostic assessments to address diagnostic and treatment issues. Utilize psychological assessment measures to explore the development of behavior patterns, mechanisms and symptoms. Work with line operational units to address mental health factors impacting human performance such as suicide, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury and anxiety disorders. Provide psychological consultation, education and training to other mental health professionals, medical staff, military commanders/senior leaders and other Department of Defense and civilian providers.

Requirements

  • Must maintain active clinical privileges for the duration of employment and sustain current competency to practice at the independent level.
  • Must have practiced as an independent licenses clinical social worker within the past two years.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) occasionally away from normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve "after hours" care or work in addition to regular clinic hours.
  • Designated a drug testing position - must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules on a rotational basis.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Social Worker: Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes planning and providing mental health prevention, education, assessment, and treatment services to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
