You will serve as a STUDENT TRAINEE (BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE AID (WILDFIRE)) in the Environmental Conservation Branch, Environmental Management Division of MARINE CORPS BASE. The Summer Hire Program is designed to provide our youth an opportunity to gain viable work experience and enable them to acquire the requisite skills for successful job performance.

Duties

You will collect, record, and organize biological data for use by management. You will perform beach monitoring for nesting sea turtles. You will maintain and repair nesting box for migratory birds and waterfowl. You will perform routine maintenance of Red-cockaded Woodpecker (RCW) cavity trees through manual removal of vegetation using hand tools. You will assist with surveying, monitoring and managing activities for and populations of protected plant species You will assist with fisheries management activities such as fish stocking, creel census, and water quality data collection. You will assist in game management activities, including food plot planting, deer hunt check station, game species surveys

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

In order to be eligible for this position, you must submit a resume. This vacancy announcement is open to Students within the commuting area of the duty location listed for this position. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a current student enrolled in: 1) A high school or home-school curriculum approved by a State or local governing body; 2) An accredited college (including technical, vocational trade schools, two or four year colleges/universities); 3) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school, etc.); OR 4) A Certificate Program in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study, that is part of an accredited, college-level, technical, trade, vocational or business school curriculum. Short-term training and/or certificate programs (i.e., several two-week programs completed or class sessions attended over a period of two years) that are not required for the position or which lack sufficient academic rigor, are not considered an acceptable academic course of study.
