This is a standardized Student Trainee position, which can be used in any Engineering organization.

Duties

The position will involve periods of pertinent formal education and periods of employment within various FAA organizations. The goal is for the student trainee to become familiar with work in support of architecture and engineering occupations, programs, projects and functions of the assigned organization in the Engineering and Architecture Group.

Qualifications

FV-C: To qualify for the FV-C, you must be currently enrolled full time or at least half time in an accredited educational institution (college, university, vocational school, trade school, etc.) and show completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study. Full or half time enrollment is defined by your educational institution.BASIC REQUIREMENTS:Degree Requirement: course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering. This occupation has specific educational requirements for entry and applicants must show evidence that their planned academic program will meet those requirements (i.e. transcript reflecting enrollment in applicable programs). Students who graduate without meeting those requirements may not be converted to the target position and could be separated from federal service. Educational requirements for conversion to the target position are: Degree in Professional Engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least 1 curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2)include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than 1st year physics & chemistry) in 5 of these 7 areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement.The selecting official may decide to interview all, some or none of the candidates referred for consideration.Other features of the Gateways Internship Program:APPOINTMENT - If selected, your appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after completing educational requirements. Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.REPORTING - Interns will be expected to report onsite to gain hands-on experience and may have minimal remote work assigned. As such, this internship may be a part-time, year-round opportunity while attending school. Please select your desired duty location accordingly.AGREEMENT - All participants must sign a written Gateways Internship Agreement with their manager that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship etc.CONVERSION - Although not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship Program to a permanent appointment without further competition in accordance with established policy. Conversion must occur within 120 days after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of diploma, certificate, or degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work experience, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern’s participant agreement. Additionally, the intern must meet qualification requirements and any other position requirements associated with the position to which converted. The intern must be converted to an occupation related to his/her academic training and career-related work experience as outlined in their participant agreement.HOUSING - HOUSING IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE APPLICANT
