The Background Investigations Directorate is seeking motivated individuals with inquisitive minds to fill the position of Investigative Assistant. This person should be a self-starter who will perform a variety of technical and administrative duties such as: records checks, letter preparation, preparing reports of investigation, and other related tasks under the direction of the Supervisory Investigator.

As a INVESTIGATIVE ASSISTANT you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Work Schedule: Full Time
  • Overtime: Occasionally
  • Tour of Duty: Flexible
  • PCS (Permanent Change of Station): Not Authorized
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt
  • Telework Eligibility: This position is telework eligible, but is not a full time telework position. The incumbent will be required to report to the office on a routine basis.
  • If selected, the incumbent must obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as indicated in job announcement.
  • Local commuting area requirement.

Qualifications

See: Compliance Inspection and Support Series 1802 (opm.gov) for OPM qualification standards, competencies and specialized experience needed to perform the duties of the position as described in the MAJOR DUTIES and QUALIFICATIONS sections of this announcement by 03/25/2024 Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade (GS/GG-06) in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility. Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: Clerical or technical experience that includes: collecting, obtaining, and organizing information; maintaining data base records (entering, searching for, retrieving, editing and deleting data), using word processing and spreadsheet software; and reviewing and accurately reporting information from records. Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies: 1. Conscientiousness: Displays a high level of effort and commitment towards performing work; demonstrates responsible behavior. 2. Decision Making: Specifies goals and obstacles to achieving those goals, generates alternatives, considers risks, and evaluates and chooses the best alternative in order to make a determination, draw conclusions or solve a problem. 3. Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with uncertainties. 4. Integrity and Honesty: Displays high standards of ethical conduct and understands the impact of violating these standards on an organization, self, and others; chooses an ethical course of action; is trustworthy. 5. Manages and Organizes Information: Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.
