Duties

The incumbent trains and supervises inmates workers in the hand and machine operations to mill, i.e., set-up and operation of woodworking machines to cut and shape parts and bore holes by hand or machine; sand, i.e., set-up and operation of sanding machines and hand sand to dimension stock with a finish sandpaper, and to clean excess glue to prepare for finishing; assembly, i.e., add glue to parts and clamp them together insert nails, dowels, and screws through joints to reinforce them, glue and build assemblies and other parts to gather to complete a unit, smooth surfaces with scrapers and sandpaper, and install hardware such as t-nuts, locks, hinges, foot sockets, drawer pulls, and door handles; upholster, i.e., fabricate and layout patterns, cut, sew, and assemble upholstered products; finish, i.e., fine sanding and sealing, hand and gun applications of sealers, stains, lacquers, paints, and putty; containerization, i.e., fabricate crating and protective packaging, and marking and labeling all finished good.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Applicants must have had sufficient training and experience to show their ability to perform the duties of the position. Qualifications will be determined by comparing your application to the responses to the Applicant Assessment Questions against the guidelines found in the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, WS-4601 Series. To qualify for this position, you MUST meet the Barely Acceptable level on both screen-out elements (Ability to supervise) and (Aptitude for work with prisoners); receive at least one half of the total possible points; AND you must furnish detailed information on your resume to support your assessment responses to demonstrate that you clearly possess the experience and skills to successfully perform the duties of this position at the journeyman level. Failure to specifically identify skills equivalent to a journeyman in this field may result in your score being lowered or in being found ineligible for this vacancy.
