About the Position: Serves as a Branch Secretary within Engineering Division for the New Orleans District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Serves as the Corps of Engineers Financial Management System (CEFMS) point of contact for the Branch, serves as an expert by providing any/all personnel assistance in processing Purchase Requests & Commitments (PR&C's) within the automated system/documents.
Duties
Works with the Division leads in initiating personnel actions, training requests/actions, incentive awards, providing advisory service for benefits, pay issues, and leave.
Prepare, provide editorial assistance, review, and distribute Branch correspondence and reports.
Serves as the Corps of Engineers Financial Management System point of contact for the Branch.
Assures control of an inventory of non-expendable property, such as office equipment, furniture, reproduction equipment, and automated data processing (ADP) equipment in excess of several million dollars.
Prepares reports using the Corps of Engineers Time, Attendance, and Labor (CETAL) system in Corps of Engineers Financial Management System (CEFMS) ensuring accurate funding work items to be used in charging time and labor to the appropriate project.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Processing purchase requests and orders within an automated system, AND 2) Assisting personnel with credit card purchases in a financial management system, AND 3) Controlling inventory of property, such as office equipment, furniture, reproduction equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Executive Assistant/Executive Secretary, Legal Administrative Assistant/Secretary, Business Operations Support and Secretarial Services.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
