This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). Incumbents will solicit, advise on, and evaluate applications and manage grants in two new program areas, respectively: Congressional Records Collections; and Community Archives and Collaboration. In each program area, incumbents will identify and work with key stakeholders to assess needs, develop and manage appropriate grants programming.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Historian (NHPRC Grants Officer), you will:
- Serve as one of the Commission's principal staff members for the solicitation, vetting, and administration of applications from institutions proposing projects that meet the requirements of one or more of the historical records grant programs administered by the office, as well as administration of Congressionally directed spending for historical records projects.
- Provide professional, technical and/or program management support to all of the grant programs, based on the needs of the Commission.
- Serve as liaison with external customers, recipients, and awardee communities to clarify, interpret, and resolve issues, providing advice and guidance to projects requesting or receiving grant funds.
- Recruit and cultivate pools of qualified peer reviewers and organize and host live review panel discussions for the evaluation of proposals in the assigned program area.
- Provide training, technical assistance, oversight or consultative advice to program officials, awardees, review panels, applicants, and/or recipients.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Training in and experience with archival methods and best practices; AND
Performing and/or leading archival support functions and implementing best practices in historical records such as collections organization, processing, management, digital preservation, access, or related archival practices; AND
Understanding or experience of research practices involving historical records collections
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
A. Bachelor's degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
