You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the COMMANDER, NAVY INSTALLATIONS COMMAND of NAS MERIDIAN SEC DET. This position does not meet the definition of law enforcement officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity in accordance with 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.

Duties

You will conduct daily inspections of posts and take immediate action to correct discrepancies noted. You will direct traffic and issue citations for improper vehicle operations and parking violations. You will write reports to provide a description of facts surrounding a crime or an incident.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Must meet applicable federal and/or state minimum age requirements for the assigned installation.
  • Must successfully complete a DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training.
  • Must successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training.
  • Employee must successfully pass an initial, annual, or any required OPM, DoD, or Department of the Navy mental and emotional stability screening, physical ability test, and physical fitness for duty test.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Investigating unusual situations pertaining to violations of the law; 2. Conducting checkpoints/roadblocks at various locations to reduce criminal activity; 3. Inspecting packages/personal belongings when admitting personnel into controlled areas; and 4.
