This position is located in the Office of Economics and Analytics (OEA), Industry Analysis Division (IAD), Federal Communications Commission (FCC) located in Washington, DC. Relocation expenses will not be paid. THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL POSITIONS WITHIN 90 DAYS.

Duties

The Associate Economist conducts comprehensive economic research studies and analyses involving technical and economic aspects and regulation of the telecommunications, wireless and/or media industries under the supervision of Senior Economists or Senior Managers.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.  Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.  To be deemed as qualified, candidates must meet the Basic Educational Qualification Requirement outlined in Part A and the Specialized Experience and/or Educational requirements outlined in Part B. A. Basic Educational Qualification Requirement Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND B. Specialized Experience:  Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 in the Federal service.  For this position, specialized experience includes the following: GS-09 Specialized Experience: Evaluating, analyzing collected data or other appropriate econometric methods using software such as STATA, R, or SAS to create statistical and/or graphical reports. OR Education: Have successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s or equivalent graduate degree. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED IF QUALIFYING BY EDUCATION.  IF TRANSCRIPTS ARE NOT SUBMITTED, CANDIDATES WILL BE RATED AS INELIGIBLE). OR Combination of both education and experience PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
