Applicants must be at least 16+ years old, and *must* possess current Lifeguard | First Aid | CPR| AED| Blood Borne Pathogens certificates to be considered. If currently enrolled/completed in the above certification programs, applicants *must* include on resume. This position is considered FLEX & guaranteed 0hrs; may work up to 40/wk. Salary is depending on experience.

Duties

Monitors activities within assigned swimming areas. Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Instructs, cautions, and/or expels patrons as appropriate. Reports problems to senior lifeguard or supervisor. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Reports problems to appropriate personnel. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the swimming facility. Cleans assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, pool, sunbathing areas, etc.) according to established schedules and instructions. Assists water safety instructor in conducting swimming lessons. Participates in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability, and certification to perform lifesaving and water rescue, and to administer basic first aid and CPR. Collects, safeguards, and deposit fees received from customers. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position is a drug-testing position, and is subject to random testing.
  • Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  • Applicants must possess current Lifeguard | First Aid | CPR| AED| Blood Borne Pathogens certificates to be considered.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Possess and maintains all required certifications prior to accepting a tentative job offer: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS) CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED (child and adult) or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED) This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. Practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position DOES NOT allow for education substitution.
