About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.
Duties
Perform duties such as install, inspect, troubleshoot and repair a variety of commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and related devices.
Selection of proper material in order to install, modify, or repair commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Install and start refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and perform adjustments to ensure proper operation using test and measurement equipment per manufacturer’s specifications.
Using knowledge and test equipment locate and diagnose problems in commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Read and interpret schematics, technical manuals and blueprints to install maintain and repair commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc, must satisfactorily complete the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
- Requires a a valid state driver's license.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a government operator's license.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Must be able to install, troubleshoot, modify and repair commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment without more than normal supervision.

Physical Effort: Moderate to strong physical effort required due to the size of the equipment involved. Mechanic frequently lifts, carries, sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally heavier weights. Often makes repairs for ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and hard-to-reach places requiring bending, kneeling and stooping.
Work Conditions: Occasionally required to work outside in all kinds of weather. There is frequently exposure to dirt, dust, grease, noise, odor, smoke, possibility of toxic fumes. Protective clothing or devices, including uncomfortable respirators or masks are occasionally required.
