Duties
This Transportation Assistant position is located in the Systems Operation Control Section, Flight Operations Branch, Flight Operations Division, Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:
Knowledge of rules and procedures involving foreign and domestic travel practices and restrictions sufficient to provide advice, investigate and resolve discrepancies and respond to a range of recurring questions from internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of computer-based airline reservation systems, processes, and terminology.
Knowledge of transportation documents to investigate and resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, check documents for adequacy, and/or perform other comparable actions.
Ability to select and interpret appropriate guidance, conduct fact-finding and evaluate circumstances in order to take necessary action to maintain schedules and operational priorities even with short notice or complicating factors.
Qualifications
To qualify at the SV-F Pay Band, you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-E Pay Band or GS-8 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:
- Using airline reservation systems to make travel arrangements (i.e. Sabre);
- Responding to a range of airline/reservation questions (such as ticketing information, travel itineraries, airline confirmation codes, seat maps, flight status, airline availability and etc.) from travelers, airline representatives and/or hotels; AND
- Resolving airline discrepancies, validating travel documents and/or perform other comparable actions.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
