In this position you will be responsible for a broad range of duties relating to database management by employing multiple data systems to compile, edit and distribute technical field data relating to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) inspection, survey and regulatory activities.

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to: Serves as the primary operator of program databases and works to ensure both the integrity and efficiency of the Agency's data. Organizes all prescribed forms for computer data input and editing. Maintains a log of all employee reports received, documents problems encountered. Works with the local supervisor and staff to ensure that quality data are being captured and reported from the field. Conducts random quality assurance of computer data by verifying computer-generated data on output reports against data on the original input reports and data files through queries. Performs clerical tasks in support of administrative services and is responsible for the preparation of various graphs, maps or other visual aids. As needed, the incumbent performs a variety of administrative tasks, including phones, time sheets, leave audits, inventory, travel authorizations and vouchers. Maintains and orders inventory of office supplies.

Requirements

  • Work is mostly sedentary, but include some lifting, bending, etc., including lifting computer paper weighing up to 40 pounds and may require to be on feet much of the time.
  • May need to drive to obtain necessary office supplies and to provide hands-on support at other field offices.
  • May periodically need to travel to field sites to test equipment or gain understanding of the survey methodologies to inform development of data gathering tools.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. FOR THE GS-6 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Experience in entering and manipulating raw data from multiple sources including written forms and hand-held electronic data devices. Experience in conducting random quality assurance of computer data by verifying computer-generated data on output reports against data on the original input reports and data files through queries. Experience in maintaining a record management system of all original data input forms and output records. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
